In a land ravaged by Titans - monstrosity that have desolated humanity and left them on the brink of constant fear at every day, every hour, every minute exists warriors that fights for what they believe in. It is freedom and to liberate themselves from fear and destruction of this apocalyptic land at the dawn of the hour, these warriors have vowed to bring the war against Titans. But just exactly who are these mysterious Titans that suddenly popped out of from the earth? Why do they eat humans when they suffer no hunger themselves? Exactly what is a ‘Titan’? These are questions you might havein mind if you decide to give this OVA a shot. Shingeki no Kyojin: llse no Techou is an OVA based off popular manga, Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) written by Hajime Isayama. The anime series that debuted in the Spring of 2013 have been an international hit and achieved numerous praise and attention. As a standalone OVA, this little of piece of work composed of a mere 23 minutes takes us back to a time where we visit another character and the journey that she went through. It’s a tough life though with blood spilled everywhere, bones mangled, and atmosphere shrouded with fear. The OVA itself takes place in the same setting that revolves around the Titans, man-beasts and the primary antagonists of the franchise. In such a time, there are no moments of serendipity but humanity is bestowed with fear. One such character among humanity is named Ilse Langnar, a young woman from the 34th Expedition of the Scouting Legion. Being a member of the Scouting Legion means putting your life constantly at risk as they are on the front lines against the Titans. For Ilse however, she discovers more than just fear. From a startling event, Ilse discovers an astonishing factor that may have changed her life forever. There’s a clear certainty of confusion with what she found and in this OVA will reveal something you might have missed from its parent series. However, discoveries aren’t just the only phenomenon that plays a role in this OVA. For a certain character with the style of a scientist, she hopes to capture one alive and really dissect the knowledge from the Titans. Returning to this OVA is Hanji, a squad leader from the survey corps. Unlike most people who lives in fear of the Titans, she embraces its identity and wishes to discover more than what she can. Throughout the OVA, her ebullient personality and irrational behavior almost puts her own life as well as others at risk. Thankfully, we have others like Levi and his corps to save the day. The OVA itself doesn’t focus much on characters but rather more on discoveries, or rather the mysteries relating to the Titans. There are so many questions that needs answers yet no one really knows the truth. Ilse’s journal details part of what she learned although it seemed to be obscured. In one sense, the OVA present itself to viewers as a way to open up our minds to what we may think relates to the Titans. Thoughts, theories, and ideas might be evoked as we try to pierce the puzzle together similar to what Hanji is doing. It also helps that the OVA recollects some of the events from the past with a short recap to refresh viewers what they remembered before. One thing, it’s definitely not pretty and Titans are detestable towards the human race. Similar to its parent franchise, the OVA performs with action in the typical shounen style. There’s the quick movements from various squad members including the prominent clean freak, Levi. Hanji herself rides into danger although her combat phases are limited because of her ambition to capture titans rather than obliterating them. But realistically, the SnK franchise plays more on the dark fantasy genre. It focuses on portraying the desolation of humanity and presents it in a gruesome way with graphic violence. In a way, it works but sometimes lacks new features. And speaking of features, main characters from the original series such as Eren, Mikasa, and Armin are absent. The trio aren’t interested in discoveries especially with Eren being the hothead so the path of knowledge falls upon more to other characters. Artistic wise, the OVA maintains its posture well in terms of presentation. The setting reflects on a sense of hopelessness for humanity. The Titans are designed in a way that consists of human features but possesses the brutality of an animal. Most of the characters in this OVA doesn't go any significant change. Ilse on the other hand is designed to look frailer, as in a fragile woman struggling to stay alive. We don’t find out much about her combat abilities either so it’s unknown her true capabilities as a soldier. The soundtrack deserves praise similar to its predecessor. Even as a standalone OVA, the soundtrack focuses on intense choreography coordinated to desired scenes. Whether these might be brutal, sarcastic, or calm, the music department once again does its job. Ilse’s voice shows her as a woman of concern but also frustration once she comes head to head with questions. The tone of her voice during one specific scene reveals the unsettling nature of how humanity is suffering mentally because of the Titans. Overall, this OVA is definitely worth the try especially if you’re curious to see what goes on with other characters. Ilse might not be a prominent character from the main series but her discovery might be an important key to unlock the mystery of the Titans. As far as mysteries go though, the OVA doesn’t give much answers so you’ll have to dig answers elsewhere. The way the episode does handles itself though is to flourish out the grim reality of the SnK world. It’s living every day in fear in such a land realizing you’re not at the top of the food chain.

The OVAs takes place around the time skip in the series near episodes 3 and 4 in the regular anime. Moving away from just the usual trio of protagonists and their training to become professional titan slayers, the story also focuses on Hanji, Levi and his squad, and several others. This OVA adds a little more background into some of the elder and younger characters of the story as well as some more mysteries to the strange titans. The first episode is the only one adapted from the manga while the other two episodes are original material. Episode 1: Hanji has become determined to capture atitan as the Survey Corps heads out on yet another difficult mission into titan territory. Being Hanji, she is obsessed with titans to the point where she blatantly disobeys the leader, Erwin, and goes off in search of some titans for her experimenting pleasures. She comes across a 6 meter titan and runs around asking it questions while it attempts to knock her off her high horse and swallow her whole. Eventually after some strange behavior from the titan, Hanji and Levi come across a diary written by a deceased member of the Survey Corps named Ilse Langnar. Her story details her encounter with the titan that chased Hanji and basically just adds even more mysteries about titans without really any startling discovers aside from some curious dialogue. Episode 2: This episode is an overly-serious yet humorous joke about Jean and his teenage angst, and it even features a Jean-centered version of the first opening theme. Jean doesn't get along with his overly-caring mother and just wants to go out into the world and get away from her, but even then she continues to embarrass him. This was my least favorite episode of the three as it just seemed stupid with it's poor attempt at comedy for the most part. Episode 3: This episode finally returns to the 104th division with a training exercise that helps unite them. What seems like a long and boring exercise turns into a mission to get back at thieves who stole the group's 3DMG and Christa. The tactics and characters in this episode are very much like the real series (unlike episode 2). The animation is just as good as it is in the regular anime and the soundtrack is also pretty similar (just without the songs that specifically go along with some of the main characters). The small amount of action looks great. While there is much less beautifully animated gore, there are still plenty of beautiful scenery shots. Some of the animation during the overly-serious comedic moments in episode 2 do not fit very well though considering most of this show is not comedic in the least. As for the characters, Hanji is still the most adorable, psychotic 40 year old in anime and Levi has to take of everyone. Ilse's voice actor does an excellent job of speaking in a rapid, panicked voice during the flashback and portrays her perfectly. Eren, Jean, Armin, Mikasa, and everyone else are back to how they were in the beginning with Eren and Jean bickering about everything, Armin trying to keep the peace, and Mikasa just being Mikasa. I enjoyed these OVAs (aside from the second) about as much as I did any normal episode from the anime. Since they take place around episode 3 and 4 for the most part, I wouldn't recommend this to people who have not watched the beginning of the anime yet, as it does have the usual recap at the beginning of the first OVA which would spoil the first few episodes. To anyone who has seen past episode 3, I recommend watching this. It's just more of the same Attack on Titan stuff as before just with much, much less gore.

Overview: "Seid ihr das Essen? Ja, wir sind die Jägerschnitzel!" What happens when you have a HUGELY popular series, but you can only make a new season every 3 years and people are all begging for more? Obviously, you HAVE to give them something, otherwise too many people will abandon ship. Especially since most fans of the anime don't actually read the manga. To solve this dilemma, Attack on Titan created this OVA. However, they really didn't want to create filler material that might accidentally contradict something later on in the manga. The only way to ASSURE that this contradiction doesn't happen, is to make anOVA where absolutely NOTHING of any importance or substance happens. I appreciate the massive handicap that the director of this OVA faced! However, there was a much better approach the OVA could have taken. The OVA should have focused on actual character building and interesting conversations between the characters to perhaps flesh out some of the minor characters or let us look deeper into the minds and motivations of our leads. What did we get instead? I'll explain. I can't really "spoil" anything because nothing happens! OVA 1: The OVA starts strong by making the correct marketing decision and choosing fan favorite Levi as the main character. He and his team must capture a Titan alive in order to study it. They discover the lost diary of a deceased scout. The diary gives us a name and basically just acts as a teaser for people who have already read the manga. If you haven't read ahead in the manga, you don't actually learn jack shit. Yeah, they capture a Titan, but we don't learn ANYTHING new about the Titans! Where they came from, why they eat humans, etc. I DO know all of those answers as of 4/29/2015 because I've read the manga, but watching this OVA won't get you any closer to that knowledge. Do we learn anything new about Levi? Nope. Do we get to see how his team dynamics work in a much clearer picture? nope. Did this episode have a freaking point besides saying "go read the manga?" Nope Ova 2: We get a cooking contest between "Potato Girl" and Jean. Seriously. That's what happens! We also get a sexy training montage of Mikasa practicing boxing for some reason in a white push-up bra. Is she trying to be Tifa Lockhart? Obvious fanservice is obvious OVA 3: They travel to what looks like the "old West" AKA Southwest United States and end up fighting outlaws. Wait...didn't this series take place in Germany? How the fuck did they get to the Southwest US? DAMN IT OVA, YOU HAD ONE JOB!!! Overall: If you aren't a huge fan of Attack on Titan, this OVA is a colossal, titanic waste of time! If you ARE a huge Attack on Titan fan...ditto. Basically, this OVA sucks. That's it folks. I don't have positive things to say here. Besides keeping the same high quality music and good animation, it freaking sucks!

Out of the 3 OVA released so far, the first is the standout. It focus's on interesting characters that i wanted to see more of in the main anime so that's a plus. Zoë is a character with a very...unique personality, which is both interesting and entertaining since she's very unconventional. Levi and his squad are the supporting characters and it's nice to see them because i personally enjoy their characters and i wish they were around more in the anime. I'm not sure whether or not to consider this one filler, since it did seem story focus'd but vaguely. The episode talks about theTitans and shows something about them that we haven't seen before so it's cool to speculate what it's about. Overall the story on this one was fun to watch unfold and interesting. The second was just fine, it worked as a typical filler. I like how it focus'd on one of the show's strongpoints - the characters. Jean and Sasha were the main characters for this one, with Armin, Reiner and some others acting as the support including General Pixis. The story is very odd, focusing on a cook-off. Though this doesn't mean i wasn't entertained, especially towards the end the episode took a wacky turn which was actually pretty funny. It also characterized Jean and gave him a bit more back story showing he's a very kind hearted person in short. It was also nice to see more of Sasha as well since she's on of my favorite characters The third was good as well, i don't really know who the focus is on this one, it told a story about a training exercise gone wrong. It followed Eren, marco, Jean, and the rest of Eren's squad prior to the second Titan attack in the second wall. The story wasn't that intense since we already know all the characters survive via seeing them in the main story that takes place after this episode does. The antagonists didn't really feel so threatening either, but watching the cadets fight them was pretty entertaining as well as seeing the interplay and chemistry between the characters. There were some funny moments and it was mildly entertaining so I don't have any big gripes with it. Overall it was good. The OVA are nothing amazing like i said, but they're very entertaining nonetheless and i enjoyed watching it. The first episode is the standout of course so i recommend watching that one at least. If you're a fan of the show the other two are fun to watch as well but if you don't like fillers then it's not your thing. Personally i didn't mind the filler story and i enjoyed it so i gave it a 7. Hope this helped (:

*This review is meant to poke fun and give insight. Story (60/100) With all 3 OVA's together, it equals to an overall of 60. After seeing the first OVA, titled Isle's Journal, I had hope for the next OVA. Then I heard they were tacking on another OVA, to make it three in all... Isle's Journal- By far the most interesting OVA. Hell, even better than the original series itself. You delve into an episode that happens in between episode 3 and 4 (If I am thinking correctly) of the original series. Levi goes on an adventure. Sounds interesting, right? Well, it is. But, I could havedone without Levi's squad. I mean, Aluo's damn gag reel of biting his tongue was annoying as hell. (-5 points) OVA #2- I don't even know what this one was named, but I don't care, because this episode was REALLY unnecessary. I have 3 words: Uneventful, unnecessary, fan service. This. This was really stupid. I'm sorry, but it was. (-10 points). It focuses on Jean, who they make the MC. Sounds...cool, right? For Jean fans, at least. They all decided to have a cook off like its Hell's Kitchen, which made no sense at all, and the animators thought, “Hey, remember those supposedly funny scenes Isayama did in the manga? Let's add those in random spots so this episode makes no sense whatsoever.” (-5 points). OVA #3- OK, this one was a bit better than the last one, but was easily crushed by Isle's Journal in the interesting factor. “Important girl gets kidnapped by men and needs to be saved by everyone's teamwork” cliché (-5 points), “Mikasa/Annie ex machina” (-5 points), “Character stops others from killing bad guys because feelings” cliché (-5 points) No half-aked Armin (-5 points) -Seriously, we get a Mikasa working out scene in the previous episode, but no Armin? Screw you animators. I'm tired of femservice. ME WANT MANSERVICE. Character (55/100) There really isn't any character. (-10 points) I mean, except Isle, who was interesting. In OVA 2, we get to see a bit of Jean's past, and suddenly, Jean is a dick to his mom! “MC is lucky enough his parents aren't dead, but still treats them like shit until the end when he realizes his mistake”. (-10 points). Why is he a dick? Did I miss something? (-5 points) Krista is useless as usual. (-5 points) Not enough Armin, too much Mikasa (-5 points) In reality, the characters are still 2D cardboard. Their 3DMG is more developed than them. (-10 points) Visuals (85/100) Not gonna lie, Snk has some good art, but it was wasted on that second OVA. (-5 points) Mikasa and Marco need to be signed up with a hair commercial, because those scenes were sort of awkward to watch. (-5 points) Reused 3DMG scenes from original series. What, can't make new scenes? (-5 points) Audio (85/100) Audio and voice acting was done very well. Don't care for the OP. I don't need Armin to narrate everything for me, too. (-5 points) I don't remember any of the OST's except for one, which I still can't find. (-10 points) Enjoyment and Final Scoring (71/100) 60+55+85+85+70=355/5=71 I'm not a big fan of SnK. And these OVA's didn't change my mind about it either. But, I recommend this toward any SnK fan, as you guys would love it, of course.

These are 3 eps with completely independent content, so I will comment on each ep, of course, the art is of the same high quality as season 1, so I will not judge the art or the music. Ep 1: The content is a new and interesting story, I think this ep is better than most of the eps in season 1. It arouses curiosity and has a strong connection with the story of titan. The survey corps characters also shine. Get A+ Ep 2: The content is half-hearted, the humor is not good and the drama is not there. Maybe it's just a relaxing ep, weirdness, and that's it. Jean is ruined because of this ep. I expect an opponent of Eren, also in terms of psychological value. Get an F Episode 3: The content is quite simple. A tribute Marco. Behind the scenes story. And especially: the characters are nothing new, nothing interesting. Simply seeing them become friends again, yes Annie... generally a fan service ep. Get a D

Warning possible Spoilers Usually I watch OVA's only if they provide some sort of continuation to the main series or give us more detail about like backstory stuff and this is one of those OVA's that was actually really enjoyable to watch. The OVA consists of 3 episodes, The first concentrates on Hange's discovery of an important journal about a scouts recordings on a titan. The second concentrates one Jean and his annoying selfish nature while he has a cook off battle with Sasha. And the third concentrates on a exercise that the 104th cadet corps had to go on that didn't really go to plan. I thought these episodeswere pretty entertaining and interesting as the we get a little more insight one the Titans since we discover they can speak not easily, but they can speak which makes us think are they really the monsters we first thought or is there a more darker secret being kept from us. The other two episodes concentrate on the main cast of characters during their cadet days and during the second episode it was fun seeing the characters having a laugh with each other while having a little debate with each other over whose better at what and the third episode shows how well the cadets work together when they put their minds to it and shows the bond between them grow. Now these episodes focus on specific characters especially the first two and we get to know a little more about their personalities. Hange is given the wheel for the first episode and it shows how determined she is that finding out the Titans origins is a primary concern and it shows that this determination almost got her comrades killed while fighting a Titan as she was placing capture of the monster over consideration of her teammates. Jean is given concentration in the second episode and he really pissed me the hell off because this was when he is still a stuck up, selfish prick so the fact that him winning a competition against Sasha really annoyed me, but luckily the episode gives Sasha some screentime as well and it really shows that she can take things seriously as as food is involved, but she can also be incredibly cute when she has gained her reward. The third episode concentrates mostly one certain members of the 104th cadet corps, but it really shows how these characters came to respect each other and show that they can work well as a team if they use their skills properly. The artstyle was really pretty much the same as the main series, but we got to see the animators go a little crazy when they want as in episode 2 we got to see Commander Pixis go absolutely insane from eating a piece of meat and his imagination just ran wild and we even get to see what some of the other 104th cadet members might look like as Titans, we even get to go to new locations like a desert setting which I was surprised to see considering how much land Humanity had left after the Fall of Shiganshina. Even though we don't get to see much Titan fighting we do get to see Humanity fighting each other well only in episode 3, but it was pretty intense seeing how the cadet members were going to outsmart a bunch of bandits and save one of their comrades from danger. There's also quite a bit of drama between some of the cadet members too like when Eren and Jean started fighting each other it really showed the rivalry between the two characters and how this situation helped them settle this feud. Overall I thought for a few OVA episodes this was actually very good as it offered us more insight on the relationship between the Cadets and the origins of Titans.

I genuinely enjoyed this more than the actual first season of AoT. Im a sucker for filler episodes. What can I say? Seeing characters just dick around, and interact with each-other in ways not seen in the show is very appealing to me. Especially since the focus of all these episodes are my personal favourite characters, Hanji, Jean, and Sasha. Im glad Hanji especially got some spotlight, she got thrown under the rug in the show, and she's such a badass! I kind of doubt somebody not holding the same stance as me would have the same opinion though, basically nothing of importance happens, I thinkthere's nothing wrong with that, other probably won't. Well, except one pretty huge thing-that I won't spoil, it happens right in the first episode so see it for yourself! Story- 3/10 -As I said, nothing happens Art - 10/10 -As with the regular show, the animation is just as outstanding as ever Sound -10/10 -Fantastic as ever Characters -8/10 -The characters in the regular show are 7/10 in my opinion, since the OVA features on my personal favourites though, im rating it higher. Enjoyment -10/10 -Pretty much exactly what I've been looking for Overall -9/10

A cheeky little OVA. Brief one shot stories. One of them is dark, one is funny, one has an interesting hook, I forgot the order these were in though lol. They help flesh out the characters more, I like them. There isn't much to say, it's what it sets out to do. I believe they modify the intro for this one as well, at least for one of the episodes. The original opening is used, it really is a great opening to a show. Watching this knowing spoilers afterwards didn't really change it much, which makes sense considering it's outside of the main story. I recommend watching itif you want some more Attack on titan, particularly from that first season time period. If you like food you will like one of these episodes for sure. It's good and honestly is better than you'd expect, an 8/10.

I do like watching the OVAs just to see what extra little side stories might be hanging around that might be more in line with the manga but really aren't too far away from being a full episode. Only the second one with the cook off between Jean and Sasha felt like it wouldn't fit too well with the main series, but the little pose Sasha and Connie do as a "fighting stance" is always cute. The third episode about a training exercise gone wrong was perfectly fine, but reminded me of the many MHA training exercise OVAs. The first one was the best withsome poor girl named Ilse writing down her thought until her death and meeting a titan with some strange, almost religious reverence towards her, thinking she's Ymir. It's got some good moments and Zoe is cool. If you want more from season 1 then you got more.

The OVA for Attack on Titan has three unrelated episodes that all happen while Eren and friends are still training. The episodes are all quite different in theme. The first one adds to the information you have about the world, the second one is attack on titan's attempt at comedy and the third one is mainly just a neat story. The animation, voice acting and music are the same as in the main anime. At the end of the opening the episode number is given which could indicate in what order the stories happen: Episode 1 is listed as episode 3.5 Episode 2 is listed as episode3.25 Episode 3 is listed as episode 3.75 Do not take this as a watch order though. While episode 1 and 3 can be watched between episode 3 and 4 of the main anime, episode 2 of the OVA contains spoilers for something you'll only know when you reach episode 9 of the main anime. Watching the OVA after finishing season 1 is a perfectly fine experience. Episode 1 is a story about a discovery the scout legion makes and gives more information about how much is known about titans. It's a nice episode to watch if you're interested in the world. Episode 2 is a episode in which everything revolves about humor in a shokugeki no souma like cooking battle. I didn't find it funny and the characters didn't feel suited to the comedy but it can be worth watching if you like comedy. Episode 3 is a story about a training mission which is mainly about character dynamics and overall neat to watch.

DO NOT WATCH DURING THE FIRST SEASON. Now I will explain why, but I hope someone told me how bad it was, feel like I wasted time of my life, so... There are 3 episodes, totally not related to each other: 1 - The first one is very cute, I suggest you to watch, nice and interesting and full AOT style. 2 - THE second episode I suppose wants to be funny, but it's not. Also, you are supposed to watch these episodes between episodes 3 and 4, well, don't watch this one if you do not want to receive a no sense huge spoiler. Anyway, I thinkit wanted to be funny like as food wars, but failed. 3 - It's ok. Watching it you understand that there is something wrong, it's like showing things that the anime doesn't show, but these things should not exist in the first place, that why ok to watch but you can also save your time. That's it. I suggest you only the first episode, but if you really wanna watch all of them, watch the second episode after the first season, it's anyway a random e episode.

I can only really say that this is ok? I guess. The OVA of Attack on Titan is a mixed bag, you’ll have the No Regrets or Lost Girls OVA which dives into really interesting stories. While this set of episodes are good they just miss the same level of interest that the other OVA had. The narrative leaps from truely interesting to unnecessary plot lines. The sound design is the same as the original if not kind of more ok. The animation is still amazing, and we do get some interesting character insight that we’ve never seen beforehand. The best of the three episodes wasthe episode titled; Ilse’s notebook: Record of a Fallen Soldier. The episode followed the perspective of Hange, by far one of the best characters in Attack on Titan. We follow Hange attempt to capture a Titan, which leads to Ilse’e notebook. Which described a weird encounter with a Titan that was actually giving hints on the true lore behind the titans and the world itself. Hange’s character and the hints of lore was the highlight of these three episodes. The other two were sorta just there. One of about a cooking competition, and was just Jean being an asshole. While the third episode was actually pretty good. While I consider it pretty unnecessary, it was fun watching the 104th training Corp work together. Seeing their interactions with each other before their Trost district experience. However these last episodes just miss the same interest that I had towards no regrets and lost girls. The sound design was pretty decent, I remember the sound where the Titan that Ilse posted encountered made such a distorted voice. The unnatural sound made the titans feel that more terrifying. Looking across all three episodes, the sound design is pretty decent and does everything that makes good sound effects. The world feels realistic and the sound effects don’t feel like they were ripped from a stock site. The soundtrack was the same as season one, and anyone who has seen season one can tell you that the soundtrack is top tier. The sound design is about the same quality as the sound design in season one which is pretty good. So I would rate the sound design pretty high. Majority of the tiers in this OVA series are ranked the same as season one. Which includes the animation. The three episode span demonstrates everything that Makes animation good. Solid line work, grounded character movement, characters seamlessly blending into the environment, etc. I discussed the art style in my previous review, but I will mention again that the art style is perfect. It reflects Isayama’s art style in his manga and whenever you see the art style you instantly know that this is Attack on Titan. It fits the world perfectly and conveys that this isn’t some light hearted world full of fun. The art style shows terrified characters in a disturbing world. While their isn’t as much ODMG use in the OVA, whenever it is there it’s satisfying and amazing to look at the animation. And commander Pixis acid trip was the funniest shit I’ve ever seen, it fit well in such a morbid franchise. The characters were alright. Only two real aspects of the characters ever stood out to me in the OVA. That being Hange in the first episode and the teamwork of the 104th training Corp in the final episode. Hange in their attempt to capture a Titan and explore the true meaning behind the titans is what makes Hange unique. Majority of people want nothing more then to exterminate them, while Hange considers factors like, what is their origin? Why do they eat humans? Seeing a full episode that explores the best attribute of Hange was amazing. The final episode shows the teamwork of the 104 to save Krista from a group of kidnappers. Seeing them work together was so fun and if you want to see more of the 104 and their journeys. This OVA is definitely for you. The second episode did have its moments, it was nice seeing the characters being happy and enjoying their time together before post battle of Trost District. However, this episode just ended up turning Jean from a misunderstood asshole to a definite asshole. While I do enjoy these episodes, they are flaws in more ways then one. Great animation, deeper looks into different characters and decent sound design end up lagging behind due to the unnecessary plot lines. Overall, I rank this 6/10.

First of all, sorry for my terrible English, I'm using a translator XD These OVAs are basically additional content for Shingeki so I'm going to say my opinion that no one asked for about the 3 OVAs OVA 1: Definitely the best OVA of these 3, showing us a mysterious mystery about the titans (as if there weren't enough already), it is a pleasant chapter to watch and it fulfills its function perfectly: additional content, I give it a 9 out of 10 OVA 2: This OVA tells us about our favorite horse face: Jean , where we see an "epic" duel between him and Sasha ,this OVA is not something to take seriously, it's 95% comedy, it's decent if you ask me, I give it a 7 out 10 OVA 3:I think this OVA is the worst thing that has come out of Shingeki no Kyojin, to begin with, there is no trace of titans, and yes, I know that Shingeki does not depend on the titans to be good, (the first part of the 3rd season proves it) but that was very bad for this OVA, it doesn't feel like I'm watching the masterpiece that is Shingeki, it has a boring and insipid plot, I give it a 4 out of 10 Sorry if the review is shit, I'm not very good at writing them but hey, what can I do, thanks for reading

Attack on titan Ova is a side story that compliments season 1 as it happens before or in its time frame. Out of the three episodes 2 are serious and one is more like a comedy sketch. The first episode is straight from the manga, I remember seeing this story quite early in the manga, like literally from the first or second chapter. The story adds a great bit of mystery to the titans and I think it sets up the vibe for the future story nicely since the series has ended and we already know how it has ended. Definitely a core episode of season1. The second episode is more like a comedy side story, a literal food battle between Sasha and Jean.I swear Jean gets the best character development in season 1. The episode was kind of funny, but what gets me every time is how the show uses AOT’s original OST for some of the most ridiculously funny scenes. It sounds so hilariously awkward. The third episode is a slightly more serious episode about bandits during one of the main cast’s training mission. It’s an okay episode with not much significance to the main plot. Here the OST kind of feels off too. AOT’s action OST is usually used for fighting titans outside the walls, but seeing it used for fighting bandits kind of feels weird. Overall, with one great episode and two average episodes. AOT’s season 1 OVAs are worth watching.

These three OVAs all take place during the time skip between Episodes 3 and 4 of Season 1. I ended up stumbling upon and watching them after I finished Season 2, and I’d honestly recommend anyone else do the same, despite the fact that they were released after Season 1 but before Season 2. There’s no MAJOR spoilers for Season 2 in these OVAs, but there are hints and nods to some minor spoiler stuff, especially in the first and second OVAs. I find that they’re a lot more enjoyable if you’ve watched until the end of Season 2 before starting. Let me get intoeach to explain why. OVA #1 - “Ilse’s Notebook: Memoirs of a Scout Regiment Member” - This first OVA mostly deals with Hange as well as the Survey Corps before they’re formally introduced in the main story. It retains the serious tone of the series and is by far the most interesting OVA, as it is the most closely related to the main plot of Attack on Titan. However, it also spoils (or rather, it lessens the impact of) certain elements that appear in Season 2. I won’t get too far into detail, but watching this OVA before Season 2 would (in my opinion) take away from a couple of big surprises that occur. I’m not entirely sure why this OVA containing hints to these reveals was released before Season 2, but my guess is it was done to create more intrigue so people would be sure to tune into it? Idk, it certainly could be watched before Season 2, but I wholeheartedly believe viewers get the best overall experience if they wait to watch this OVA until after watching Season 2. Especially since the second OVA also follows this sentiment. OVA #2 - “The Sudden Visitor: The Tortuous Curse of Youth” - This second OVA gives more depth and backstory to Jean as it revolves around him, so his fans are going to get the most out of this one. Fans of Sasha will also get a treat since she has a lot of fun moments and screen time here. This OVA ramps up the comedy, so the tone is lighthearted and completely different from the regular show. It’s basically if AoT was a slice-of-life comedy show for an episode, so if you enjoy AoT more for its bleak and serious tone and don’t care to see the characters be uncharacteristically goofy, then this one probably isn’t for you. I for one found it to be a hilarious break from the norm. The reason I say it’s best to watch after completing Season 2 is that there is one specific joke that’s made in Pixis’ mind that lands A LOT harder if you’ve seen at least most of Season 2. It involves certain characters taking certain forms, and it left me laughing out loud, whereas if I had only seen Season 1 before watching, it probably would have only gotten me to breathe a tad more air out of my nose and carry on. Can’t really explain the joke more than that without getting into detail, and genuinely, it’s possible spoiler territory if you see it without the knowledge of Season 2. So just finish Season 2 first. Onto the next one. OVA #3 - “Distress” - Honestly, this one is completely skippable. It felt like I was watching an episode of Naruto from one of the later filler seasons. It’s the very definition of a boring predictable filler episode. This one can be watched right after Season 1, but unless you’re just craving additional AoT content and really like Marco, just skip this one. It really doesn’t add much to anything. TL;DR Watch these after watching S2 for best experience. OVA 1 = Hange and is consistent with show’s tone. OVA 2 = Jean + Sasha and is like if AoT was a slice-of-life comedy. OVA 3 = Naruto filler episode level of boring, so unless you need your AoT fix, just skip it.

Ilse's Notebook: Memoirs of a Recon Corps Member is a short but intriguing entry in the Attack on Titan universe that adds a valuable piece to the puzzle — especially for fans who are hungry for deeper lore and insight into the Titans. While it doesn't quite reach the intensity of the main series, it still delivers a meaningful and eerie story in just one episode. The OVA follows a scouting mission led by Section Commander Hange, during which a disturbing discovery is made: the body of a deceased Scout named Ilse Langnar, along with her notebook detailing a chilling encounter with a talking Titan. Thisbrief but impactful episode explores Hange's obsession with Titans and adds an early glimpse into the mysteries surrounding their intelligence and behavior. For such a short runtime, it does a great job of deepening the lore and giving Hange some additional spotlight. The atmosphere is dark and emotional, and Ilse's final moments are haunting. You feel her desperation, her bravery, and the creeping realization that the Titans may be more than just mindless monsters. It’s one of those episodes that really rewards fans who want to understand the world beyond just the action. I chose to skip the other OVAs in this set — The Sudden Visitor: The Torturous Curse of Youth and Distress — as they’re widely considered filler and don’t add much (if anything) to the main plot or character arcs. While those episodes may offer some light-hearted or side content, I personally prefer to stick with story-relevant material, and Ilse’s Notebook felt like the only one truly worth watching here. Overall, Ilse’s Notebook earns a solid 7/10 from me. It’s not essential viewing for everyone, but for those invested in the lore and the creeping mystery behind the Titans, it’s a compelling and worthwhile side story.

The story was very good. Ep 1 gave us some small clues about the mysteries of the titans. The story has flashbacks taking us back a year ago when Ilse of the 34th expedition gives us very important info on the titans. Ep 2 served as sort a comic filler episode, with Jean being the main focus and was based around a cooking competition between the leaders, Jean and Sasha and their groups, we also get to see how Jean was like when he was younger. And Ep 3 relived the the first "battle" of the 104th training corps when they encountered some banditson a training mission. The characters were decent. We get to see some of the popular characters such as Hange and Levi playing as the main charcters in the 1st episode. Tbh there wasn't much character exposition other than for Jean and his dynamic with Eren. The visuals were astounding. This time it was by Production IG who produced the episodes. The facial expressions, the action scenes, and the animation were all fantastic for an OVA. And Production IG did a better job on shading and the penciling of the characters than the other OVAs. A reommended watch for an AOT OVA, 2nd best after No Regrets.

This Extra episodes of Shingeki no Kyojin doesn't agree to the main history. Are 3 episodes with a normal duration, the first episode is really good because is a side story of a girl who die on a mission of recognizer and write her last moments before she was killed by a titan, the girl discovered something new about the titan. The titan can understand her when she talk and regret about something that she can understand, all was written on a diary of the mission which is discovered years ago by the scientist and motivated to catch titan's for study reasons. The second story is aparody of Shokugeki no Soma (food wars) and chance the constructed personality for some chapters begging more stupid. The third episode is about a mission when they are in the academy, and have to go to get one specific material to the A and B point, on the travel they was attacked by a group and take one hostage until he run away. Then they united a plan for take back his mate and all ended good. This 3 OVAs episodes are not recommend if you look a extra content of Shingeki no Kyojin and don't deserve see them if you don't want to ruin the main history.
