Pokemon Movie 23: Coco/Secrets of The Jungle made me cry. I know there will be people out there calling this a Tarzan rip-off, and I'll admit, the concept is nothing revolutionary and the plot can be very predictable at parts, but BOY is the overall execution and heights of the emotions in movie incredible. Its 100% worth a watch, especially for any long-term Pokemon fans out there. I love this new alternate line of Pokemon movies after the soft-reset that was Pokemon Movie 20: I Choose You and then Movie 21: The Power of Us which seem to focus on a specific theme instead of tryingto follow the canon storyline of the TV anime. This way, the movies can pack more richness in its characters and concepts without sacrificing continuity. Its really a win-win in my book. Art and animation are SOLID. Everything in Okoya Jungle looked lush and vibrant and teeming with life. The same could be said about the scenes in Milyfa Town where we get to see Pokemon living together with humans and participate in various events and festivals together. Overall, the Pokemon in this film feel very integrated into the world and strengthens both the world-building and the central theme of the story: how Pokemon and humans coexist to become friends, and even family to one another. Also while the soundtrack of this movie is not particularly mind-blowing, it works well for what it is. The few insert songs used were quite sappy but effective at conveying the budding emotions that bloom in the climax moments of the movie (where the big cry happened for me). I won't rant on too much longer because really there is not that much to dissect here. Its a classic coming of age/parenthood story between a human and a Pokemon Zarude. Ash is there as well to propel the story forward. Team Rocket is as adorkably conniving as ever and really helps the protagonists in this movie more than do any actual villainy. My only criticisms for this movie were some occasionally awkward CGI, especially in some crowd shots, that really weren't TOO noticeable. And also, the main "twist" villain (if you can even call it that) was not interesting whatsoever and could be spotted a billion miles away the moment they appeared on screen. I also wished they built a little bit more on the established lore of the forest and the whole shiny Celebi aspect as I felt like that was almost completely brushed over. I rarely leave reviews, but I feel bad that this movie, which obviously had a lot of love and passion put into it, was mostly brushed under the rug due to the pandemic. I hope that it will get more attention once it hits streaming platforms here in the west. Lastly, if you are going into this very good movie expecting to get major backstory on Ash's dad, DON'T. You'll be disappointed haha. Now, go watch the movie!!!

Should you watch it? I mean it's a Pokemon Movie. Why wouldn't you? Lol aside from that I'd say yes. It's a really great movie. In the review below I'll try to refrain from as much spoilers as I can if you haven't watch it yet. Story: While it might give you Tarzan vibes to some extent. It's more of a heartwarming story between a Child and their parent, and the relationship they've build with each other. And how like any Pokemon movie, gotta save the world or area they're in. As far as Ash and Pikachu goes, they seemed more like side characters inthis one, which I did not mind at all. It made Team Rocket seem less than side characters, and you can honestly forget they were even in the movie. They could've made the movie without them in it. I honestly say though they could've added a more tougher situation in the story to make it seem more threatening, but I mean what they did was alright in my book. Art: That animation though. Like it's great. Especially the scene with Pikachu swinging around. You could also feel the emotion behind the pokemon and characters in certain scene of course. Sound: Music was interesting. It definitely fit the jungle vibe. Characters: It was mainly about Coco and Zarude. And the display of their bond was done really well. Of course Ash & Pikachu were there usual selves which is always done well lol Overall: I enjoyed it. Not the best Pokemon movie, but I'd rank it in the top 10 maybe. I'd definitely recommend watching it

Pros: Art and Animation were beautifully crafted as usual in the modern Pokémon movies. Music was touching, and the subject matters touching fatherhood or even just parenthood in general is enough to touch my heart and, I while I was not on the verge of tears, I definitely felt like I was headed there. Cons: My only cons of this movie in particular are the predictable character tropes and plot points, like if you've lived long enough you've seen this story before. in conclusion, one of the better Pokémon movies, i definitely recommend if you like Pokémon and if your in the mood for an Animefilm. 9/10

So, I saw that this had no review and I have been following the Pokemon Franchise since a long-time so the review and rating might seem biased. Also this is my first review! So as the pokemon franchise has been doing for all these years the movie was satisfying and filled with vibrant colours and elemnts of fantasy. well, as the trailer suggests it focuses on father-son relation. Moreover the storyline is quite similar to previous movies depicting atrocities of some evil humans on Pokemon and our protagonists comes to save the day. But this movie actually made me cry a lot. It is a perfectamalgam of hear-warming and heart-wrenching scenes! It takes you on an emotional roller-coaster with touching reunions and revelations! Now some people might not find it that amzing but instead critic on repeated tropes but being a Pokemon fan since a long time I appreciate the portrayal of newer aspects and how they would turn out in the Pokemon Universe! I like this movie a lot!

Not surprised that this is another terrible Pokemon movie. Where to begin? - Unoriginal story, literally a rip off of Tarzan but worse - Typical cartoon villain being a bad guy because he's a bad guy (also extremely dumb, recording a proof of his evil plot for no good reason as if he wanted to be caught) - Team Rocket role felt forced and unnecessary - The humor is just etremely old jokes - Tons of cliche ideas - Overused "pokemon and humans must co-exist!" as if this subplot hasn't been used millions of times - Just like in the previous movie, Ash doesn't do anything for most of themovie. It feels like even the writers are sick of him and don't know what to do with him - The movie tries to be sad and emotional, but nothing that I haven't already seen done in other works - There isn't even an interesting pokemon fights, you get a pokemon vs big robot that have been used too many times in pokemon before, and in a couple of pokemon movies too Just like the video games, there isn't any competing writing or direction. It's extremely average product that exists just to sell merchs. Make your children watch Disney's Tarzan instead, seriously.

I hate Ash. Blah, blah, blah. This alternate continuity is such a waste of potential. Blah, blah, blah. I was a fool to even humor myself with the thought that they might take the "human raised by Pokemon" thing in an interesting direction. Blah, blah, blah. It's a mediocre kid's movie, no matter how you slice it. Just like the last two. They took a concept that (surprisingly) had never been done in Pokemon before and then slapped it together as a mash-up of, of all things, "Tarzan" and "Pokemon 4 Ever". Even the villain decides to give up all pretense of having a larger motiveand just become a mad scientist with a CGI death machine halfway through. Also, there was a moment in the middle where Ash told Pikachu to use Iron Tail and I was sucked right out of whatever was going on. Iron Tail? That move that Pikachu spent an entire arc of the anime perfecting, and it's just casually thrown in here? What the fuck was the point of making an alternate continuity Ash Ketchum for these recent movies if the movies are just going to pretend that this is Ash from the show, only as a blank slate who travels alone and is not allowed to learn any lessons? Infuriating. The only good thing I have to say about it is that the background art is, as usual, quite pretty. But is that even praise when it comes to anime? That's literally the anime shtick: limited character animation made up for with wonderful backgrounds. (And, honestly, a lot of the time the background is just trees, and there's not much to be done during those stretches.) There's got to be a better way to do a Pokemon movie than this reheated trash. I've heard almost nothing but praise for the Pokemon TV show for years. Why can't they translate the things that are working over there in the movies? Hell if I know.

The story is build up differently from other pokemon movies, but its a comfortable way. Some of the drawing style and angle are a little bit "wow" cause i have never seen it before. The story is complete, and you are not let out with any questions, (besides an open endings in the end which is obvious due to the normal pokemon story of ash continue on his journey) The only thing i miss is a little bit more emotional song which makes us cry or tear up, and it would be prefect! Really recommand it, i think you would not get dissapointed!

A movie with the combined flavors of Pokemon 4ever and Disney's Animated Tarzan, where we follow a young boy raised by a mythical Pokemon who discovers he is uniquely able to help both humans and Pokemon. The plot is nothing astounding, we delve into Ash helping this wild child discover who he is while taking down a baddie who just wants the jungle's natural resources. The visuals are okay, there were only a few scenes that wowed me and the ones that really detracted was when I could see the CGI game-looking models of Pokemon in the background. Sure there was some flashy camera anglesthat for short bursts were cool, although hard to follow, this film has nothing truly groundbreaking. When it comes to characters we have a rather generic forgettable cast. The biggest players in this film were Skowovet and Dada. The villain basically was 4evers villain with the motive and honestly not the strongest movie after the post I choose You movie reset of Pokemon. Partially wishing Pokemon would have some movies without Ash as although the titular main character he could of easily been removed in this movie, but alas we need him. That includes team Rocket whose only role in this film was to sort of snitch on the villian, meh. Overall, an enjoyable movie to watch, I bet kids who like Pokemon will also enjoy it. Don't expect to see any of the old-school dark themes or major villain roles here, it's all about family in this one! (Also, dang Pokemon really dropping a slight remark about Ash's dad in there huh? That actually caught me off guard)

Oh man, it occurred to me as I was watching this movie that a lot of kids these days have probably never seen the actual Tarzan. That's what they might as well have called this movie: Pokemon Tarzan. But I really don't mean that in a critical way at all. I'll admit I was judging it at first, but unoriginality isn't that big a deal to me, in the grand scheme of things. I do believe the same idea can be done well multiple times, in multiple ways, etc. This movie is beautiful all around. I've seen anime where the fights are a central part ofthe story that aren't animated this fluidly. The story isn't any less moving for being centered around different characters and shoved into the shapes of a popular kids' show. The music was no Phil Collins, but it was catchy, not overly cheesy like it definitely could have been. This is the first standalone Pokemon movie I've watched in a while, but it was a pleasant surprise. Like I said, it's nothing super original. If you've seen Tarzan, you're sure to recognize certain scenes that were recreated almost exactly. But I think they did a good job with the idea. I enjoyed this movie.

Behold, the final Pokemon movie! It's been a long road getting to the end and there's a tangible feeling of finality to this whole Pokemon thing here. The original anime is finished, Ash is done away with and the movies are, surprisingly, dead and buried. A revival is always possible, but after 24 movies, a living link to the franchise which followed many of us throughout life, is forever severed. For better or worse, the quality of Koko settles right in the boring middle, an average not easy to write about. Production values follow the expected Pokemon standard without any ambition to amaze. Similarly, the plotplays out like a lesser copy of its greater predecesors - most notably, Tarzan. For such a by-the-numbers production, it's a shame then, that specific Pokemon drama is written and acted out in an extremely clunky way. The dramatic elements simply don't work and many threads are naively resolved in a blink of an eye. There's a conscious attempt to forgo writing emotional character moments and the antagonist's uncomfortably straightforward and long monologues concentrate all the blame at one point. The whole production is moreso uninteresting than bad and a better fit as background noise than an active watch. Ultimately, being the last Pokemon movie is the only outstanding quality on display here. If you're a Pokemon fan and have seen a dozen other ones, Koko won't hurt you. However, as a cap to the franchise, I'd rather recommend The Power of Us - probably the only good movie this movie franchise has given in its final thirteen years. Lastly, I'm relieved to be able to write these words: It's finally over.

Pokémon: Koko (AKA Secrets of the Jungle in the international release) is an amazing movie. Story: 7/10 The story is pretty good for a Pokémon movie. The story between Koko and Zarude is surprisingly compelling, and gets fairly emotional at it’s climax. Ash took a backseat for the movie as it focuses on it’s Koko, although he also gets several nice moments (whether he’s talking to Koko about parenthood, or having a cool battle with Pikachu). The antagonist was the main downfall of the movie however, and could’ve been explored better - if he had not tried and failed to be a “twist” villain then I feelas if he could’ve been a lot more enjoyable. Celebi was useless too, it just kinda appeared at the end. But overall the father-son storyline was really great. Visuals: 10/10 The visuals were INSANE. Non-stop sakuga, amazing character acting. The background art was great, and I loved the character designs. Both the town and jungle are colourful and lively. The CGI was good, but the robot CGI was “too good” - it was overdetailed, and stood out compared to the characters around it. But overall the visuals were beautiful, and this was easily the best looking Pokémon movie. Audio 8/10 As usual with Pokémon, the audio is incredible. Each insert song is memorable and atmospheric (I specifically love “Really Mysterious Creatures”) - the soundtrack is great and fit the movie wonderfully. The sound effects are pretty nice too, but nothing outstanding. Overall, the movie is great and definitely worth the watch. It’s heartwarming, exciting, wholesome and a visual spectacle. While it has a few issues in it’s story, it’s still compelling and tells a nice message. It’s very enjoyable, and lighthearted (while still having several dramatic/sad moments). 8/10
