If I had to choose one word to describe this season, it'd be underwhelming. Not bad per-say, just underwhelming. It honestly doesn't feel like I've watched another season of Osomatsu San. It was just so.. bland. I miss the weird bullshit from season 1. Not to say there was a complete lack of weird bullshit, but it felt cut back. I'll blame the Riceballs for that. I respected the staff for trying something new, so I tried to approach them with an open mind. However, all they did in the end was steal screen time from other side characters. I found myself missing Chibita and Iyamia lot. And Homura, who never even made an appearance (still pissed about that.) Looking back, my favorite episodes, like Mt. Takeo and Cosplaymatsu, were episodes where the Riceballs barely showed up, if at all. Also, maybe I'm nitpicking, but all of the Matsus felt slightly OOC the entire season. Just a little, though, not enough to really bug me. So now that I'm done bitching, let's talk about the upsides. Most of the skits, exluding the Riceballs, were decent. They made me chuckle and that's all I can really ask for at the end of the day. I also really liked how Nyaa-Chan was developed this season. And, all flaws considered, I still anxiously waited every Monday for the next episode. Anyways, art and sound are as good as ever (OPs still slap) so not much to say there. So, was season 3 worth the wait? Eh. Am I gonna stick around for season 4? Absolutely, but that's because I'm already in too deep in Matsu Hell to escape at this point.

It seems most people who write review have very negative feelings towards this season, which I quite strongly disagree. I personally have quite favourable view towards the AI Twins. They installed new dynamics in the first half, and during the second they provide plots that cannot be delivered by other characters. The other development which I enjoy very much is about Nyaa Hashinoto, which developed not only herself but also Totoko and arguably Osomatsu. Even if it might not be as good as Season 1 it is definitely more enjoyable than Season 2. I don't think those negative reviews below represent the mainstream view on thisseason.

Of all the comedy anime shows that I have seen so far Osomatsu-San is my favorite, the way it goes from really-silly to honest ultra-serious it’s simply unparalleled, it also has an all-star cast of your favorite seiyuu and you will have a blast of a time. I think all that until season three came around… I’m not sure what happened but from the first episode, it was slowly going downhill. Well that’s not entirely true, the first episode was a good one but maybe my least favorite of the first episodes so far, but it kinda gave glimpses of what was coming. The firstmost notorious problem of this season was the introduction of two new characters, twin androids Shake and Ume, their design is cute, their acting is funny and they don’t have bad personalities either, however, the joke that would mostly take place in one episode and reminded of in some jokes later become a plot device for many of the subsequent episodes, and every time the pattern was almost the same: they don’t understand the world as a human and they ask our boys to finally reinterpret it a twisted non-funny way, not only that, they tend to use excessive repetition as a way to make an unfunny joke funny, but it just works only a few times through the season, repetition might be the biggest issue as it taints almost every chapter for every character. Of the things that I wasn’t expecting to like the most, even love was Nyaa Hashimoto’s subplot about being a single mother and getting partnered by her lower rival Totoko, it was serious, funny, and unexpected, sadly there isn’t much of this subplot but whenever an episode featured them it certainly was a great time. Osomatsu-San season 3 wasn’t that terrible but it surely lower the bar by much, there is also enjoyment to be had and some laughs here and there but don’t expect the same great quality as the past seasons.

I'll keep this brief, as I wrote a full review of Osomatsu-san - Season 1 and a follow-up review of Osmatsu-san - Season 2 which you can both find on my profile. After thoroughly enjoying the hilarity and creativity of seasons 1 and 2 of Osomatsu-san, I can see why the score for this season is lower. However, I do think this season deserves a score that is a bit more consistent with seasons 1 and 2. While the gags overall tended to move in the direction of less ridiculousness, the ridiculous ones were pretty consistent with seasons 1 and 2 and the stories/gags continued to becreative, funny, and sometimes insightful. In addition, the stories continued to do well at highlighting each individual sextuplet and pairing different variations of the sextuplets, which was a strength of season 2. It also seems like the side characters like Iyami and Chibita got less screen time, however, for good reason... A big change in this season was the addition of the Riceballs: Pickled Plum and Salmon. This was a bold direction to take as it brought a level of story continuity along with two new enjoyable characters. This change makes this season feel a bit different from seasons 1 and 2. I think the end result was just as funny/creative, although it could be considered at times a different kind of funny because the stories overall had less of a "shuffled" feel to it, especially with the addition of the Riceballs' continuing narrative throughout the season. Overall, I'll admit that this season felt different, but I enjoyed it at the same level of seasons 1 and 2.
